I had a bleeding in my brain. I was 25.

 

After undergoing brain surgery and a year of paralysis, I began to look at the world in a different light.

Literally I saw the world in double vision for close to 2 years, and had to wear prism glasses to correct my vision.

 

 For an extended period I abandoned my art when I realized that I couldn’t even draw a straight line. The act of drawing and painting brought so much pain to me as opposed to the joy I felt before the stroke. In this period of paralysis and recuperation, I only looked forward to be driven daily by my mom to the beach.

Facing the sea in my wheelchair allowed me to keep my insanity at bay.

 

 My home studio is in the suburb of Kuala Lumpur - Big glass doors with a view on my small koi pond. Sometimes, my neighbour on his balcony will spy on my work, pretending to get some fresh air. I prefer to work indoors, alone, with music.

I have come to terms with my condition and accepted this imperfection in my life. As a matter of fact, now I see my work as a constant evolution, the jittery lines remind me of my constant struggle in even the simplest things in life.

 

I love drawing women, and their glorious long hair. I vividly remember that my only request to the surgeon before I was pushed into the surgery room was try to shave only part of my head leaving my hair intact as much as possible.

Some painted images are from my observation in life, others simply letting my imagination run wild.
